Dear Mrs. Boutilier:
For my senior capstone project, I plan to host a 5k run to raise money for wounded veterans. Specifically, I will be hosting the run in Vernon on the rails to trails system on June 6th , and proceeds will be given to the Wounded Warrior Foundation which aids veterans in aspects of mental health, physical wellness, and independence. I chose to this because I feel strongly about supporting injured veterans, because without them our liberties we take for granted everyday would be nonexistent. For that, we truly owe them, after all they put their lives on the line for us. One reason why I feel so strongly about this issue is because I am applying for the US Air Force Academy and the US Naval Academy, and I plan to serve as a military aviator. This 5k will be a culmination of all of my high school skills, leadership experience, and a test of how organized and effective I can be as an individual.
My essential question I will be focusing on throughout my Capstone experience will be why is the war on terror is being fought ineffectively? My main goal for this question will be to write an elaborative research paper, discussing and questioning military practices and strategy for the past several years in the Middle East. With this pertaining to my 5k project, I plan to present an event website I’m building as well as all of the marketing and planning materials I’ve been working with so far. These artifacts prove the level of detail required for a successful 5k event.
For my mentor, I will be working with Brian Kenny. Brian has helped me through my application processes for the service academies, and nominations, along with working with me on developing important life skills. Ive known Brian for years now and has helped me with a lot of important things ive done, from being my confirmation sponsor, to giving me mock interviews to simulate what they might look like for the academies. Brian is retired now but graduated from Notre Dame with degrees in environmental engineering and philosophy. He worked as the head of the state Department of Environmental Protection for a number of years and is now retired. The biggest issue I will have with the project is organizing all of the baby steps of the project. For example, finding a reliable and cost-effective timer on a date that works, and ensuring all of the other factors can come into play on that date. This aspect of the project will push me to be organized and take notes of everything that’s happening.
Sincerely,
Nick jonas
